ResponderSafety.com has added a new interactive map that plots struck by line-of-duty deaths of emergency responders from all departments. The United States Struck By / Vehicle Assault Line-of-Duty Deaths Map was created by Todd Leiss, Traffic Incident Management Coordinator for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, to bring awareness to the issue of emergency responders being struck by vehicles and either injured or killed while working at roadway incidents in the United States. Each year, hundreds of emergency responders across all disciplines are struck. Mr. Leiss feels that, "We need to stop treating these responders as a number but need to put a face behind those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their fellow citizens." The map provides basic information on each incident and honors the responder who was killed.

At the time of release, the map covered known incidents in the United States from 2018-2020 with some additional incidents from 2015-2017, when available data is more limited. The map includes an icon representing the agency, the name and photo of the fallen responder, a basic description of the incident, and a link to an available news article. Any omissions or errors in the map are unintentional and will be corrected as additional information is developed.

The map is a "work in progress" and Mr. Leiss invites interested parties to notify him of additional struck by/vehicle assault deaths so he can update the map.
