Program Abstract
Manual traffic control is an important tool in the traffic incident management and responder safety toolkit. However, in the absence of a national standard for manual traffic control procedures, who manually directs traffic, how they direct it, and how they are supported in that work varies considerably. Training can be lacking. Safety may suffer. Poor or differing procedures across organizations can impair interagency coordination and confuse drivers. This program lays the foundation for successful manual traffic control and offers recommended procedures for manually directing traffic safely and effectively.
This program does not make you a qualified flagger or manual traffic control practitioner. Further training and practical experience with your organization is needed.
